new year's eve

it's the time of the year again to sit down and think about new year's resolutions! haha okay let's see what i had last yr:
stick to my priorities list
study harder
control my hot temper
adopt a positive attitude as much as possible
be more open-minded
spend more time with my family
remember sis' birthday present [ok i actually FORGOT to get her one this yr. argh.]
don't complain too much
manage time more effectively
be confident but not over-confident
don't procrastinate
learn to appreciate and cherish what i have
give-and-take
tidy my study room
be sensitive at appropriate times

im glad i fulfilled most of them! (: except that i still fall victim to procrastination every now and then. haha so here are the resolutions for 2005!

1. read the Bible every day
2. be forgiving
3. be patient
4. be receptive to new ideas/environment/people
5. give thanks for what i gain and learn from what i lose
6. set my priorities right
7. limit my commitments and pursue the best
8. heed appropriate advice
9. exercise self-discipline
10. be more optimistic

school's starting again soon and i would miss secondary school life dearly! 4/12, teammates, councilmates etc. love ya all! (:

p/s: donate generously to the tsunami victims!

(well this was supposed to be up last nite but i was too tired to post it so here it is)

Sentosa was awfully crowded today..guess everyone's in the mood of the countdown to 2005. four lovelies - namely jes, leexinyi, aileen and nic - made me wait for almost an hour!!! *growl* i got a free entrance ticket as an apology haha. well, barely 1 hour after soaking in the sea, it started to rain! More of a thunderstorm to be exact. we had to share a puny shelter with a family of goodness-knows-how-many people. dumped our sandy and dirty things there, and waited fervantly for the rain to stop while wrapping ourselves in towels to keep warm. after some time, we moved over to the lifeguard's station and were standing underneath the shelter when the lifeguards started making..small talk. first they blasted music and told us that they felt sorry for us. then they asked which school we were from, whether we've taken our O levels, and shared really silly jokes. when the storm was over we headed back to the sea where the waves were huuuuge! i guess we made a fool of ourselves laughing our heads off like idiots at every single thing and drew curious stares haha. oh yes nic and i had our HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY! (((: if only joan was with us! we'd be gawking like a nutty horny threesome like we always do. after a couple of hours we went to bathe and nic borrowed a towel from one of the lifeuguards, who started hitting on her when she returned it! HOHO. we were standing afar so we couldnt hear their conversation but nic later told the rest of us that jeremy (the chubby lifeguard) and his partner (a relatively skinny one) asked for her number and told us to contact them the next time we go to sentosa. haha! i bet it was more of directing the invitation to nic herself :D well they were really nice anyway and waved us goodbye.

headed home and later celebrated dad's birthday at swensons. we ate a lot - and i really mean A LOT - and chuckled in private when we found out that family sitting next to us has a boy who's having his birthday too. what a coincidence (:

shall go to bed before i doze off in front of the comp. night!

phantom of the opera

ahhhh this show is a MUST-MUST-MUST-MUST-SEE! best movie ive watched this yr. just listened to the soundtrack and it's simply magical. creates a completely different feeling after watching the show itself. gosh my heart goes out to phantom. i think the most melancholic part was when raoul shouts i love her! show me some compassion! and phantom says the world shows me no compassion! :( somehow i wish phantom would end up with christine instead.

Merry Christmas!

'Tis the season to be jolly falalalalalalalalaaaaa!

Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." Luke 2:10-11

Have a blessed Christmas everyone! (:

man. woman.

she was wearing heavy make-up, clad in brown stockings, a micro-mini skirt and skin-tugging black translucent long-sleeved top, and had her dark dried curls tied back. however none of these could hide her masculine facial bone structures as well as her slim yet strong-looking legs. she sat alone, quietly sipping her soup next to me. when she was done, she continued sitting in silence. from the corner my eye i could see her glancing around, then stared straight ahead of her. she seemed to be waiting for someone, but no one came. finally she got up and left, almost tripping over her own feet. that was when i realised she was struggling to walk properly in 3-inch heels.

this is the first time i observed a gay up-close. and no i dont discriminate gays or homosexuals.

reminds me of what Sy Rogers said at last wk's service. every gay/homosexual has a story behind him/her and that we should help him/her go to God, instead of allowing them to walk away from Him in shame.

the salesman i met at nike was a stark contrast. he's the really beefy macho type, and his tight shirt only showed off more of his muscles. even mom couldnt resist taking a second look haha. it's amazing how different the people around us are.

anyway, just 2 more days to Christmas! (:

feat

mom and i did something crazy today. we went from our house all the way to coronation plaza and back - on foot, as part of workout routine. usually 8 minutes is all thats needed to travel the same distance by car, provided that theres no traffic jam, so we estimated that walking should take 20-30 mins. instead we took one whole hour! okay, considering that we also had to stop by 6th avenue - where traffic was unusually heavy - to post christmas cards, as well as the fact that we literally strolled there, we didnt do that badly hur (: maybe shall try running there next time.

hair blues

"Leading hair salon(s)" do not necessarily provide the best hairdressing services. Take one of those outlets that i visited for example. My hairstylist looked like a bonjovi gone wrong! Alright thats not the point. He seemed to have some problems communicating with customers.

Him: Do you want *mumble* or *mumble*?
Me: sorry?
Him: (same volume) Do you want *mumble* or *mumble*?
Me: (mystified look)
Him: (continues to shuffle my hair and avoiding eye contact)
Me: huh?
Him: *mumble*
Me: err..either one is fine.

goodness! this is a perfect example of dui4 niu2 tan2 qing2. another thing is, much of his attention was devoted to flirting - openly - with a fellow female hairstylist who washed my hair.

Him: (grins at her reflection in the mirror) so how?
Her: (grins back at his reflection while tugging at my hair) i dont know.
Him: so is your sister coming to work here?
Her: i really dont know la..

And the conversation goes on. The woman must be getting excited or something to the extent of scrubbing my head so hard that i was sure my scalp was gona come off. *growl*

The outcome was surprisingly acceptable, except that i think my fringe was screwed up by the guy, which prompted me to question him, "urm is my fringe supposed to be kept like that?" He offered some explanation that there was something wrong with my parting so he had made some changes yada yada. I was so tempted to remark that his own hairdo isnt any more impressive, but shrugged it off.

Okay maybe im being mean, but it's gona be the first and the last time cos i aint going there ever again.

phew

it's hci for first 3 months after all (: was really jittery about it cos i was afraid i wouldnt be able to make it, given that my L1R5 just managed to hit the cut-off point. sis saw me fretting in front of the comp just now and she laughed it off, remarking that there's nothing to worry about. tsk..if only i can be as optimistic as that. makes me wonder how it would feel like 3 mths later when the actual Os results are out. for now im contented; God has plans for me! (:

anyway it's sis's 21th birthday today! lucky girl.

again

i thought this song's perfect for taufik heh. hmmm maybe i shall catch the repeat telecast of the finals again haha.

I Dream
In my mind
I can climb
All the mountains that surround me
My spirit's there, where eagles dare to fly

In my heart
There's a spark
That can light the world around me
An open door, where I am sure dreams are

It doesn't matter if I win
Or the colour of my skin
Cause the race is all about
Believing in yourself

And I dream
I can run
Like the wind
And be strong
When my heart just wants to give in
I dream
I can be
The hero that's in me
When I dream, I dream

If there's a time
In your life
When the odds are so against you
There's no defeat, if all you keep is pride
First or last
Slow or fast
There's a dignity that makes you
Keep driving on, when worlds have come apart

It doesn't matter rich or poor
Or the things you've done before
Cause the race is all about
Believing in yourself

And I dream
I can run
Like the wind
And be strong
When my heart just wants to give in
I dream
I can be
The hero that's in me
When I dream, I dream

I dream
Of a moment
That forever will be golden
When the torch is passed
Only dreams will last
That are shared by everyone

And I dream
I can run
Like the wind
And be strong
When my heart just wants to give in
I dream
I can be
The hero that's in me
When I dream, I dream

catching up

went to visit my grandfolks across the causeway today, and i finally watched the new police story vcd! haha too bad daniel wu was fully dressed throughout the show :p but yeaa he's charming all the same. haha met this really friendly immigration officer when heading for home, and when he took my passport he said, "i was once in love with sylvia, just that she was my car." tsk, some joke..but he deserves some credit for his attempt to make one anyway. yawwwn..it was tiring entertaining my adorable little cousins man. oh yea i have one who's simply perverse for her age; she actually cracked a joke using the word p**** with such ease and amusement! just imagine how shocked i was.

clear-up

at last i hardened my heart to clear away the mountains of school books, worksheets, exam papers, test papers, guidebooks, notes. sorted out my things into two piles - To Throw and To Keep. felt like crying each time i shifted something to the 'To Throw' pile; it's almost like erasing part of my memory of secondary school life. but i still kept all the literature stuff, my beeeeeaautiful history and social studies notes, as well as amath, chem and bio textbooks. can't bear to throw away the latter though i doubt i would ever need them again. oh well, the rest goes down the recycling bin. sighh i wont be doing this if i have a younger sibling or cousin or friend who may find my things useful but too bad i dont. and i can't keep them either cos my shelves are running out of space and i need a tidy table for next year. yup so after 5 whole hours my study room is spick and span! oh yes and couldn't help giggling when flipping through the numerous pages of explicit content in my chinese textbook..im sure joan will kill me if i give the book to anyone (:

taufik is the man

the first singapore idol is indeed memorable.

i remember detesting sylvester in the beginning stages of the competition, with frequent thoughts of what's this damned gangster with bad hair doing in singapore idol?! each time i watched it. can't quite recall when exactly did i change my opinion of him, but it wasn't a mistake to finally recognise him as a phenomenon, a man of x-factor, a rocker of mass appeal.

then, i remember taufik being named the arrogant one during the initial auditions and i thought, man this guy is a gone-case. subsequently in the next round he still didnt appeal to me with his rendition of "my girl". but hey, like what everybody concluded, his transformation into a star with strong vocals who wears his personality and talent on his sleeves was miraculous. i don't know why today's show made me think so much..perhaps taufik is more than a mere singapore idol - he's an unique inspiring character too.

heh it was so emotional..i thought taufik was gona cry when the announcement was made! and it was nice of him to let sylvester sing part of the song towards the end, instead of taking in the glory and glamour by himself. haha now im looking forward to american idol again! (:

go, taufik!

okay from an objective point of view, IT'S GONA BE TAUFIK'S NIGHT :)

Aint No Sunshine

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
It's not warm when she's away
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
and she's always gone too long
Anytime she goes away

Wonder this time where she's gone
Wonder if she's gonna stay
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
and this house just ain't no home
anytime she goes away

And I know, I know...

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
Only darkness everyday
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
and this house just ain't no home
anytime she goes away

this song blew me away! im ready for more today. hope sylvester chooses some really good songs too. wheee i cant wait!
