work-from-home 2
Yupp, another day spent at home instead of the office :) I haven't quite started on what I should but I would! Soon. After I'm done feeling lazy.
It's such a joy chatting with like-minded friends from all walks of life. Yesterday liz simply slumped into a chair at a nearby desk and we just talked about everything from school to SATC to fashion to coffee mixers to renting properties. This girl amuses me all the time. When we first met she made a wild (and inaccurate) guess that I was an rgs girl because I supposedly have a "cynical tone" of voice. A few days ago she told me about her friend's fb status, something along the lines of,
congrats to sumiko tan getting married at last; who's next - lee wei ling? HAHA priceless right. Then yesterday she said she could envision me enjoying life/culture in the eastern side of the US. I mean, where did that come from?! Tskkk.
Oh, I bought a book for timmy last night. Bon jovi autobiography. Inspirational material, in his words. A rather apt gift before he begins his degree course in August, I would say. We finally had the chance - without too much fatigue plaguing us - to share some of our thoughts about career and music and people we know. In particular I was telling him about the Slash interview I read in the papers. The notorious legend mentioned that musicians tend to be rather self-centred, and having a family/kids somewhat taught him that there're in fact other people and events that deserve much care and attention. I wasn't expecting that, really. That made me sit up. Makes alot of sense eh?
Thinking alot makes me hungry. Bye for now world.
me-time
I lugged 5 heavy books (research material to work on for my mentor) to school for nothing last evening. It's damn ridiculous that the school lib's bookdrop bin was FULL, when the lib was already closed! I mean, the lib was said to be opened the whole day until 5pm, so the bookdrop should have been cleared at some point before the lib closed isn't it?! And it's the middle of HOLIDAYS, goodness. Surely there wouldn't be throngs of people borrowing and returning items?! Urgh. Looks like I'm gona owe the school at least 5 days' worth of fine. Anyway, headed down to UCC thereafter to catch hy's performance with quan, so it kinda took my mind off the whole issue. Good job, buddy :)
Desperately needing to recharge after getting butchered again during yoga class yest. Also needa to upload grossly overdue photos but fb is soooo sssslooooow.
quiet thursday morning
Several issues to ponder over!
1) An offer for a legitimate source of passive income - should I or should I not?
2) Needs dark-coloured flats + versatile work clothes + gorgeous lingerie
3) Practical ways to start accumulating wealth
4) Meet up with awesome friends :)
silver lining
So finally I've decided to sit down and write a thoughtful entry.
5 days of training are completed. The few of us who have grown closer over the week agreed that the most valuable lessons we'd take away from the programme are the transferrable skills- how to listen, how to question, and how to strike up conversations with practically anybody and everybody. Whether or not I'd eventually venture into this industry, I know I've made a fantastic decision to participate in the training even though I'm only an intern. True enough, I had everything to gain. I'm rather proud of myself for taking the initative to speak to every trainee in class, for a start. Doing well for the test at the end of it was a bonus reward for challenging myself. And it was an honour being able to learn from the investment director and managing partners themselves. Such opportunities don't come by every day.
People relations form the basis of this industry. I dare say over the past 6 weeks I've met some of the most interesting, most inspirational, most genuine people ever. They break the monotony of a typical work life in the business district. They helped to boost my confidence a little when my morale was at an all-time low over the past couple of days. I can't be more thankful for them, but that doesn't change the fact that I still have a rock in my heart that I can't get rid of. Those words keep appearing in my head and ringing in my ears. One mistake and I became a liability, a kid, and a mess. I don't blame her for being so disappointed in me. It's just the same self-doubt and guilt that I'm having trouble handling again. Timmy says I should speak to her about it. I want to, but I think there's no point in doing so. There's nothing else to say except that I'm still sorry, and that isn't gona help anything and anyone. I need time. Loads of time. And I believe so does she. Work life has, in so many ways, made me value friendships more than ever.
I should get down to resuming editing work for prof. The other day I dropped him an email, and he was like, oh you're still alive haha (x Darn, I feel bad!
and another.
It's been a pretty packed week! And next week is only gona pick up more pace as I've agreed to attend the training programme although the target audience is the new advisers. Since there's nothing to lose and everything to gain, why not? :D Anyway, I don't know how disciplined I'm gona be to write in this space, given that there are sooo many things to check/update every day - facebook, twitter, company email, gmail, ivle... technology is catching up with time waaaay too quickly! But I'll try my best. There are just times when a few lines of 'status updates' are simply inadequate.
OH! Quick recap of new discoveries this week:
1. Fellow interns (wooots FINALLY. not in the same team, but who cares!)
2. New sleek laptop bag from pc show - quite a steal!
3. Another faaaabulous muffiin shop at tanjong pagar plaza
4. Lusting after macbook pro and iphone4..

By the time my internship ends, if I don't start making concrete plans to be financially free, I should be very very ashamed of myself!
