back to square one
been there, done that.
a case of mild diarrhoea, you said. well now i should think of how to cure it before it gets worse right? mega sigh.
anyway, my folks just came back from turkey with exotic-looking handbags, ornaments, shoes, umbrellas (omg), wine bottles, chocolates, apple tea, chestnuts, etc. And mom cheekingly remarked that she thinks turkish men are "very handsome" with their "high noses" and "sharp features". tsk. ohyarh and the best part was they met, of all people,
MICHAEL PHELPS! OMG. WHAT THE HELL WAS I DOING HERE IN SINGAPORE. But they didn't take photos with him. darn, what a pity!
the good news is, my cinderella days are over for now (:
random
suddenly i was swarmed by all the
OMG SYLVIA YOU'RE ONLINE/ SHOCKING!!!/ OMG SYLVIA CHONG IT'S YOU when i was automatically signed in to msn haha which, by the way, i haven't touched in eons. heh you people are darn amusing (:
okay just a little shoutout to dhan (you're prolly too excited/"scared shitless" by now to read this but still), YOU GO BOY!
by the way, been youtube-ing ANTM cycle 11 (: last season they had a somalian girl who as a child had been forced to undergo horrific rites of passage, this season there's a transvestite and a jap-korean with admittedly fake boobs. perhaps interesting elements like these work well for viewership.
anyway,

such an ooomph picture. i want it on my bedroom wall!
in retrospect
i've been teaching my kid for more than 4 months and very soon, with the advent of his PSLE, i'd call it a day. strangely i think despite his idiosyncrasies i'd actually miss him. and i figured the feeling is mutual (haha!) because the other day when i told him 30 sept would be my last day he started whining and saying he'd get his principal to let me "teach at (his) school". tsk. that's child-talk for you.
sometimes i wish i brought along a voice recorder - a good one, no doubt - to all my tuition lessons because this kid really amuses me big time. (if only he doesn't annoy me just as much, if not more. if only.) then i can keep a collection of his most nonsensical, out-of-this-world remarks. for instance, yesterday he started off with:
"teacher, you know avler lavi [avril lavigne]? i think she damn sexy leh!"then, after writing barely half a sentence,
"teacher, wah that day me and my friends watch the tokyo deef [tokyo drift] mtv, the girls damn sexy! they dance ah then the butt will shake up and down one." (erupts into giggles.)
and halfway through a math equation,
"teacher, i msn my girlfriend, he [she] want to break up, so i say you dare ah i tell everyone your secret."i raised my eyebrows.
"i go tell everyone he [she] kiss me then touch my butt!"seriously, more should be done to teach these young boys with raging hormones about the birds and bees.
hmm on second thought, i believe it's his nonsense that i'd miss most :D
save meeee
i almost killed 40+ people yesterday.no i didn't transform into a terrorist overnight, neither did i lose my mind over my hectic schedule (x
boarded an extremely crowded shuttlebus and was squashed right next to the driver so i could only hold on to ziying's elbow slightly while in my awkward, twisted position. and not to forget a heavy tote bag and shoebag weighing me down. upon a sharp turn i lost my grip and my balance and fell- no joke - onto the lap of the driver! the next 4 seconds were probably the longest of my life as i desperately attempted to untangle myself from giant gear/driver's arms/steering wheel and regain my balance. omg. in my vague memory, the driver mumbled smth about almost crashing over to the side, as the 8 or 9 fellow nearby passengers who witnessed my embarrassing act tried hard not to burst out in laughter.
ah wellllll! (x
all in a day's work
Had a pretty good week thus far! saturday especially was a blast.
passed my final theory test on my first attempt which started off my day well (: but the earliest practical test i could book for now is 05/01/09, which isn't actually too bad considering that the earliest date available for private learners is supposedly 30/12/08. hopefully i'd have enough practice by then to pass it asap!
[edit: managed to push my testdate fwd to 09/12/08! WOOOOTS :D]Then there was
maeshaan (tim's church teacher) and kenneth's wedding later in the evening. beautiful couple, professional lawyers with no airs, devout people who apparently walk the walk and not simply talk the talk. really really happy for them (: the only drawback was the presence of a wine-bashing, gift-bashing, school-bashing individual at our table.
honestly, we could all do with a little less shitass attitude from a spoilt brat who didn't care two hoots about what others' dining preferences are, about how undiginified it was to criticise the school that 2 other guests are currently attending as well. Was reading the papers a while ago and something caught my attention. a reporter who took part in a stint to be a foodcourt/cinema hall/ toilet cleaner wrote:
'Imagine if children grew up in households with no conception of keep the house tidy or cleaning up after themselves because "the maid is there"...' It reminded of my tuition kid. My friends would have heard a zillion stories of that little terror, but what most people don't know is that i'm very very jaded by the job not only because he's lazy, rude, unappreciative, unmotivated and all, but also partly because i cannot stand the way he treats people around him, his maid in particular. He would throw sweet wrappers out of the window into the front yard and nonchalently declare that "siti (the maid) would clean it up anyway", order her to halt all her chores just to open the gate, spill mugs after mugs of water just for fun and make her refill them. and that's just the tip of the iceberg. shrug. i know it's supposedly 'none of the my business' but i do see find such attitude worrisome in the long run. I do make the effort to take thankyou and goodbye to her and the way she beams at me everytime tells me that expressions of gratitude for her hard work are a rarity in the household, which is a real pity.
Anyway, just realised that half the sem is gona be over soon. Unbelievable.
if you don't have faith
my weekend's FINALLY here!
just taking some time off to revisit some videos of my favourite AI winner ever. haha definitely reminded me of the countless hours i spent doing nothing but youtube-ing during the hols (x

i've a graded presentation (which i arrowed myself for) and a project proposal due next week so basically im stuck at the freezing library doing research and rushing tutorials most of the time haha. say hello to sophomore life! BUT there's maeshaan's wedding and guitar fest to look fwd to this wkend sooooo, reasons to keep beeeaming till the end of the hectic week.
sidenote1: there's this bunch of people doing GROUP DISCUSSION over their lappies nearby and their voices are piercing through the silence. omg.
sidenote2: i still can't believe our bio lecturer made all of us play bingo (with bio terms nonetheless) in return for ferrero roches but i must say it was a clever enough tactic for me to stay awake!
