If anyone... (a) is into film art, (b) wants a break from chick flicks, or (c) doesn't mind racking his/her brains watch The Diving Bell and the Butterfly!
i walked into my first tutorial class of the sem a little early and was rather stunned to see just 6 or 7 other guys already sitting quietly there. so i realised guys can actually be ON TIME haha. gingerly, i took my seat (gingerly because the classroom was in "pin-drop silence", as Dr A would say), hoping that more girls would file in to even out the severe gender imbalance, and hopefully a familiar face or two. well, talk about surprises. in came my econs khakis lixuan and amelia and shortly after, jacq! :D we OMG-ed one another as if we were long-lost sisters! i wonder if i'd be surprised again for tmr's english tutorial.
btw i was told twice today that i look/sound "really happy". ohwell let's just say i believe i have reasons to be (:
or so the media claimed. pretty true though (: i thought sharapova was a well-deserved winner at the australian open, though i was actually rooting for ivanovic. both played some very fine tennis and im very tempted now to pick up my racket and give it a go. ohyes, the aspiring words of the legendary billie jean king, "champions take chances, and pressure is a privilege", are worth pondering over.
i got stumped by this question from my dentist today. frankly i had no idea (x that aside, i don't know why but routine cleaning never felt so uncomfortable; it felt like a million little razors running over my teeth. as i sat anxiously in my seat i wondered how i could have ever possibly survived the ordeal of having braces during my secondary school years. in particular, i wondered where i found the courage to agree to have all 4 second molars extracted in a single session. 4 healthy ones, in fact. (usually people get 2 extracted in a day and 2 on another.) i could remember the queer numbing sensation brought about by the anesthesia, the immense force with which those teeth were being yanked out, and the metallic taste of blood that remained in my mouth long after the extraction. having said that, i may have to undergo the same frightful procedure all over again someday cos i just discovered that a wisdom tooth is growing out =/ however, this time, i doubt i'll be able to face it with the same gungho attitude like i used to. or, somehow i can get it back again.
meanwhile, the latest count turned out to be 24 and a half :p
when you have the best of both worlds, it's as if you feel heaven.
headed down to fish&co glasshouse with wenyen es duan after lect on friday! extremely overrated place i know but seriously WHO CARES. as wenyen remarked, it's the first time ever the bunch of us gets to eat out together. out of school, that is. usually it'd be either the deck or subway before the dreary 6pm southasian lect last sem =/ jacq was supposed to join us but she had family matters to attend to; we still love her (: anyway it's great to just chill out before the tutorials begin and school gets into full swing.
seems like school life's still pretty laid-back at this point for me, as compared to, say, the madrush that the law folks are going through, which michy can vouch for! apparently they've already begun haunting the library. nonetheless that sweetheart accompanied me to test-try the new olio outlet at hollandv that very evening haha. love the food, love the portions (giant-perfect), love the atmosphere. and basically she got me mentally prepared for the early birthday treat which i planned for pf the next day (: just thinking about the blast of a weekend makes me wana smile myself silly.
just a few more minutes to my man's twentieth :D we are growing older. and hopefully, wiser. hmm which reminds me of a little talk i had with my girlies. i figured that i can't wait to turn 20 simply because the very process of growing up is symbolic and i love every minute of it. it's not so much about getting older and bidding TEEN-age years goodbye, but more about being able to make important decisions, to bear greater responsibility, to make heartfelt commitments, to be stronger, and in the midst of it all, have more fun (: alrighty time to call soon!
classics never die (: in the other video i found, before bill withers started singing he said: "so once in my life i wanted to forego my male ego and admit to losing something".
reeeally glad to see so many familiar faces of ex-tutorial/lecture mates and randomly bumping into friends on the bus and around school (: there're only lectures these two weeks but the feeling of being back in school is awesome. went for training for the first time in weeks with mel too. nothing beats sweating it out on the courts! wish the rest of our usual khakis were there though. hmm now im ALMOST as busy as my man who's perpetually stuck in his office till past midnight these days heh.
alrighty time to rush for lecture!
[edit] wenyen and i agreed that history lectures are by far the best. i miss our quirky bunch of lecturers and bubbly tutor last sem =/ we could stay wide awake without even having to try; we had no lecture notes so we had to copy furiously all the time but we enjoyed every minute of it. indeed the mods im reading now are very practical - i just wish there could be more energy and liveliness injected into the lessons. and when i say 'liveliness' i don't mean repeatedly asking us whether we're "excited". shrug.
packing away old notes/books/junk always feels like chucking away bits of my memory, and it makes me feel down in the dumps for a moment or two, for reasons that sometimes i don't even know. alright there was an exception, and that was when i threw out my political science coursepack. yes the entire thick stack. and that felt great :D tells alot huh.
if everything - specifically the tutorial balloting - goes according to plan (which i really really hope so), i'll be taking microanalysis1, macroanalysis1, econometrics, economic issues in developing world and english exposure mod, in a 4-day week schedule (: yea, this is a luxury that unlike many others i failed to enjoy last sem. there's a trade-off though, cos my exams end super late this sem. well, life is fair i guess.
it's almost time to embrace that nerd in me all over again.
his westpoint scholarship is finally confirmed. well, sort of. i've always had mixed feelings about it, but upon receiving the news i was uncontrollably, instinctively happy. and being someone who trusts her instincts more than anything, at that moment i knew it was meant to be. hopefully he'll pass the myriad of upcoming specified tests and secure that spot.
it's heartening to discover that i ain't the only girl who'd say the supposedly cliched words i'll wait for you to a guy and truly mean it. haha so let's see what i achieved from today's shopping trip with reggie: 1. renewed faith in the seemingly impossible 2. back-to-school necessities 3. enemy in a certain shopkeeper after argument over refund 4. blisters at my toes 5. ultra-sensitivity twds textures (inside joke)
oh yea, got 4 out of my 5 modules so far (: last bid for GEM mod on tuesday and i can kiss bidding goodbye for another.. 3 months. cheers to that!
