parental woes. not mine.

I just overheard mom's conversation with one of my aunts who had called to seek advice on how to discipline my supposedly "rebellious" teenage cousins. Frankly, I can't really decide whether my mom gave good advice. Or what constitutes good advice, for that matter.

If I were a mom,
I would wana try to know my kid as much as I can.
I would give him/her more freedom than I myself have been given.
I would try to like the things that my kid likes.
I would like to have long dinner/ bedtime conversations (conversations, not lectures) with my kid.
I would teach my kid how to swim.
I would wana know about the people my kid fancies/dates.
I would wana be my kid's best friend.

Ironically, these are the same reasons why I don't think I wana be a mom in the first place.
